Accelerating Action: Celebrating the Women of Fignum on International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025 carries the theme “Accelerate Action”, a call to continue pushing for gender equality and meaningful change. While progress has been made, challenges remain, particularly in industries that have historically been male-dominated – such as technology and finance.
At Fignum, we’re proud to see more women shaping our team across diverse departments, bringing invaluable talent, expertise, and fresh perspectives that drive our success forward. To celebrate IWD, we asked some of the incredible women at Fignum to share their thoughts on what this day means to them, their career journeys, and their perspectives on working in the industry.
Reflecting on Progress
For Lindsay Quantrill, Head of Finance, IWD is an opportunity to acknowledge the progress that’s been made while recognising that there is still work to do:
“Growing up, it was common for our mothers to be stay-at-home mums or have jobs that ‘worked’ around the children. While this is still a familiar setup, more and more women are making their mark and pursuing careers in industries that have historically been male-dominated. I’ve been with Fignum since the beginning, and it’s great to see that the number of women here has grown – I was the sole female for quite a while. While there’s still some way to go, IWD is a day to reflect on how far we’ve come and to champion the women around us.”
For Tracey Petersen, Marketing Manager, IWD is about celebrating achievements but also keeping the conversation going:
“International Women’s Day is a day to celebrate women and how far women’s rights have come. It’s an opportunity to bring attention to important conversations – the challenges women continue to face, from balancing career and family life to navigating male-dominated industries and pushing for true workplace equality. It’s a reminder of the power of individuality and the importance of a woman’s voice in shaping change. While progress has been made, there’s still work to do, and IWD is a chance to reflect, recognise, and continue driving that change forward. It’s fantastic to see more women joining Fignum across a variety of departments, strengthening the diversity and talent within the business.”
Advice for Women in Tech
For those considering a career in tech, Claire Elliott, Head of Change and Customer Success, shares some valuable advice:
“Believe in yourself and don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. There are a whole span of careers outside of being a developer or programmer that some women may not be aware of, such as Graphic Design, Project Management, Marketing, and HR. Women have a whole range of valuable skills that are transferable in the tech industry—it’s just a matter of finding the right path for you.
I would also say that some women are deterred by the gender imbalance in the industry. Personally, I’ve always seen this as a positive and something to be embraced. Being a woman in a predominantly male team means that, by default, you bring a unique voice and a different perspective to decision-making.”
Lessons Learned Along the Way
When it comes to career growth, the right mindset can make all the difference. Aimee Kennedy, Project Manager, shared the best career advice she’s ever received:
“Don’t sweat the small stuff. Sometimes it’s hard to remember that we’re all human, and things don’t always go as planned. Mistakes happen, and it’s how you come back from them that really counts.”
Similarly, Anna Skrabel, Finance Assistant, shared this piece of advice that has shaped her approach to work:
“Take advantage of the opportunities available to you. Don’t let the fear of failure hold you back, and treat everyone as you want to be treated yourself.”
Looking Ahead
The theme of “Accelerate Action” is a powerful reminder that while progress has been made, there is still much to be done to ensure that all women have the opportunities, support, and representation they deserve.
As we reflect on this year’s IWD, we encourage everyone – regardless of gender – to play a part in accelerating progress, championing diversity, and supporting the voices that will shape the future of our industry.
